Sanford, FL Upgrades Water Treatment With Pinnacle Zenith 30X™ Ozone Generator

In 2014, the City of Sanford, Florida, sought to modernize its Water Treatment Plant #2 (WTP#2) to address persistent water quality challenges. Elevated levels of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), and discoloration created unpleasant odors and inconsistent compliance under the facility’s chlorine-based disinfection system. Seeking a more effective and sustainable solution, Sanford partnered with Pinnacle Ozone Solutions to implement the Zenith 30X™ ozone generator system.
The turnkey system included a 520 lb/day Zenith 30X™ generator, QuadBlock® Generation II cells for energy-efficient ozone production, a 7,000-gallon liquid oxygen storage system, three 890 GPM side-stream injection systems, and a 30-ton chiller to maintain optimal operation. Pinnacle’s Ozone-On-Demand® controls allowed real-time adjustment of ozone output to match water quality variations, while an off-gas destruction system ensured safe and compliant operation. The fully automated setup minimized manual oversight and delivered consistent treatment performance.
Since commissioning, the system has dramatically improved water quality, removing color, DOC, and H₂S to provide clear, odor-free, and safe drinking water. Energy consumption dropped by 20%, contributing to the city’s sustainability goals, while automated controls and high reliability improved operational efficiency. Sanford consistently meets stringent environmental regulations, avoiding compliance risks and reducing chemical usage.
The Zenith 30X™ installation demonstrates how advanced ozone technology can transform municipal water treatment. Sanford’s success highlights the potential for energy-efficient, fully automated ozone systems to improve water quality, reduce costs, and ensure regulatory compliance—serving as a model for similar facilities nationwide.
