Rohm And Haas Strengthens Its Global Ion Exchange Resins Supply Network
Philadelphia, PA Rohm and Haas's ion exchange resin facility in China is one of four Rohm and Haas ISO-certified sites expanding operations for a wide range of ion exchange resins manufacture. The expansion complements various developments already underway at the company's network of ion exchange resin sites in the USA, Europe and Asia.
Over the last 18 months, Rohm and Haas has invested significant resources in its sites in Japan, France, the USA, as well as in China. The development reflects the company's continued strength in its core markets as well as in new applications. "Our understanding of how functional polymers work and can be adapted to meet today's needs for water, energy, food and pharmaceutical applications have resulted in a greater product demand," says Kim Ann Mink, Global General Manager, Ion Exchange Resins at Rohm and Haas. "The investments we've been making are not only for today, but for the future. Continually looking at the need for expanding our global supply network and enhancing our sites so we can better serve our customers is simply part of our ongoing commitment to the industry."
Investments across the network include ongoing capacity increases, new packing lines, development laboratories and process optimizations. "We are pleased that Rohm and Haas already has in place a well-established site in China that has been producing ion exchange resins for several years now," adds Mink. In addition to capturing resins capacity from the company's UK site, the China facility has been investing in additional manufacturing lines and capacity for acrylic and styrenic anions, cations, and drying capability as well as adsorbents. These resins are used in the nutrition, ultra-pure water, potable water and energy markets, among others. The site in China complements the opening last year of the first stage of a
$60 million dollar Rohm and Haas research and development center in Shanghai.
The company's master batch processes enable duplication of quality around the world at all Rohm and Haas ion exchange resin manufacturing facilities. In addition to investments in China, other highlights include a new, dedicated facility for certified pharmaceutical grade resin at our site in France, which recently received four cGMP* compliance certificates for its powdered resins used as active ingredients and excipients. Capacity expansions and development work are also underway at our site in Japan for both cation and anion resins.
