Rochem Landfill Leachate Treatment Video Case Study – Orchard Hill Sanitary Landfill
Located in the town of Watervliet, the Orchard Hill Sanitary Landfill (OHSL) serves the greater Southwest Michigan. After years of managing their leachate using an evaporation process, new ultra-low discharge limits for mercury and ammonia enforced by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency required OHSL to re-evaluate its leachate management practices.
OHSL quickly determined that Rochem's reverse osmosis system was a more viable long-term, cost-effective solution than evaporation or hauling and transporting to the local wastewater treatment facility. At the same time, the energy-efficient Rochem system enabled OHSL to refocus the use of its gas for a new Landfill Gas Electric Generation Plant on site.
