RO Membranes' Protection at Aquapolo Ambiental Water Reuse Project, Brazil
Aquapolo Ambiental’s São Paulo water reuse facility produces 1,000 liters of industrial-grade reuse water per second. To ensure water quality, the facility employs a multi-stage treatment process including reverse osmosis (RO). However, RO membranes were prone to biofouling, impacting efficiency and increasing costs.
To address this, Aquapolo partnered with Atlantium to pilot its Hydro-Optic Disinfection (HOD™) UV technology as a biofouling control solution. HOD™ was compared to traditional biocides. Results demonstrated a significant reduction in biofouling and a remarkable 30-35% extension of RO membrane life using HOD™ UV. This case study underscores the effectiveness of HOD™ in optimizing water treatment processes while minimizing chemical usage. Aquapolo’s adoption of this innovative technology positions the company as a leader in sustainable water reuse solutions.
