Case Study: Residential Application - Arsenic Removal System

The As/1200 Point-of-Entry Arsenic Removal System is designed and manufactured by Aquatic Treatment Systems, Inc. (ATS), of Scituate, Massachusetts. The System was installed and started-up in August 1, 2001. The System is designed to remove arsenic at a treatment flow rate of up to 12 gallons per minute and approximately 300 gallons per day. Historical arsenic levels have ranged from 189 parts per billion (ppb) to 350 ppb in the raw well water. The System has reduced the arsenic level in the well water to non-detect levels or below 1 ppb.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The As/1200 Arsenic Removal System is made up of four treatment tanks, each 10" diameter by 54" tall, connected in series. The System receives raw well water from the pressure tank and provides treated water to the home. The System operates on demand, treating up to 12 gallons per minute. It is a flow-through System instrumented with on/off valves and system monitoring equipment. All tanks are fitted with a valved head assembly to control inflow, outflow or by-pass. Column 1 contains 1.5 cubic feet of ATS A/P Complex 2002 Oxidation Media, with the primary function to oxidize Arsenic III to Arsenic V. Columns 2, 3 and 4 contain 1.5 cubic feet of ATS A/I Complex 2000 Arsenic Adsorption Media with the primary function to remove arsenic. All of the treated water from the arsenic removal system flows through a Carbon Filter Unit that contains Coconut Shell Carbon. This cartridge reduces any objectionable tastes or odors from the treated water that may have been in the raw well water. The As/1200 System is completely neutral with regard to tastes and odors – it neither causes them nor treats for them. The System occupies approximately six (6) square feet of floor space. The System requires no routine maintenance such as backwashing or chemical additives. Every ATS system is built with equipment, parts and fittings that meet NSF/ANSI Standard 61: Drinking Water System Components-Health Effects. Each system is sold with a 100% money back performance guaranty.
