RAMAR Announces a New 900 Series TransPondIT for Schlumberger Electricity, Inc. CENTRON Meter

Research Triangle Park, N.C. - Research Triangle Park, NC – RAMAR, one the fastest growing Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) companies in the United States, announces a new electric 900 Series TransPondIT® for the Schlumberger Electricity, Inc. ("SEI") CENTRON® meter. The TransPondIT is a flexible and low-cost one-way radio-based meter interface unit (MIU) for the North American Utility Market. The TransPondIT is installed within the CENTRON meter as a personality module.

The new TransPondIT allows utilities to receive data from the solid-state CENTRON single-phase residential meters remotely. Some of the features include rapid access to usage data, tamper detection, and outage counting. The TransPondIT collects the meter data and transmits it via radio frequency (RF) to either a mobile or fixed data collection device.

"We are pleased to announce the integration of the RAMAR TransPondIT with the CENTRON meter", states Michael Ueland, AT RAMAR LLC, Chief Operating Officer. "This offers utilities a cost-effective solid-state solution and shows our continued support in developing and providing economical solutions for our customers."

"The release of the TransPondIT module continues to show the flexibility of the CENTRON platform and the commitment of SEI to the AMR communications industry. SEI has shipped over 8M CENTRON's of which 6M have been outfitted with an AMR communications module" states Bob Burks, Vice President, Marketing, Schlumberger Electricity, Inc.

The new TransPondIT maintains the same open system architecture and compatibility to existing meter reading equipment that has made the RAMAR solution so popular. RAMAR's ability to interface into existing system components means that the cost and disruption of implementing an AMR system is minimized. RAMAR is continuously evaluating new technologies in order to improve the AMR system, products and performance.

The new TransPondIT for the CENTRON meter is expected to be released in the first half of 2004.
