Puraffinity Enters Collaboration Agreement With Metir To Evaluate Rapid, On-Site PFAS Detection Alongside PFAS Removal Technology

London, UK - Puraffinity, a UK-based water technology company specialising in advanced materials for the removal of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water, has entered into a Collaboration Agreement with Metir plc (AIM: MET) to evaluate Metir's proprietary PFAS detection platform alongside Puraffinity's PFAS removal technology in field applications, as announced by Metir on 23 September 2026.

Under the Collaboration Agreement, Metir and Puraffinity will undertake a programme to evaluate Metir's proprietary PFAS detection platform using its Microsaic Systems' technology, deployed alongside Puraffinity's PFAS removal technology to provide rapid analytical data at the point of treatment.

The programme, for the semiconductor manufacturing industry, will measure PFAS concentrations in water before and after Puraffinity treatment, providing near real-time data on treatment performance and the effectiveness of PFAS removal. It will assess rapid, on-site measurement of PFAS concentrations before and after treatment, with the potential to demonstrate an integrated 'detect, treat and verify' approach.

PFAS analysis typically requires samples to be collected and transported to specialist laboratories for testing using conventional mass spectrometry equipment, often with lengthy delays before results are received. This limits real-time process optimization and makes it challenging to anticipate PFAS breakthrough. Metir's proprietary miniaturised mass spectrometry platform has been developed and is being optimised to provide highly sensitive PFAS detection in a significantly smaller, lower-energy and field-deployable format.

Puraffinity's small-footprint adsorbent media technology is designed for use across a range of applications, including municipal and industrial water treatment, landfill leachate, contaminated groundwater, and environmental remediation. Its compact footprint, ease of servicing and high efficiency are particularly advantageous for the semiconductor industry, where minimizing disruption to core site operations while maintaining stringent compliance is critical.
