Promising Results In Suspended Solids And Phosphorus Removal
Mellifiq has successfully completed multiple on-site pilot project to advance pulp mill water quality at a historic pulp manufacturer in Norway, established in 1897 and today a producer of high-quality thermomechanical pulp.
The pilot targeted acidic wastewater from a filter press separating large amounts of solid fibers from the process water. Despite challenging conditions with very low conductivity (<0.5 mS/cm) and low pH (4.0–5.0), the results were highly encouraging, achieving 100% phosphorus removal and over 90% reduction in suspended solids.
Testing was carried out with Mellifiq’s broad-spectrum AxoPur mobile system, equipped with our Sealed Reactor Electrocoagulation (SRE) technology enabling the evaluation of multiple electrode materials. These results demonstrate the robust performance of electrocoagulation for phosphorus and solids removal, even under highly demanding conditions. They also pave the way for discussions on a full-scale treatment solution tailored to the stringent requirements of the pulp and paper industry.
As part of the evaluation, several technologies were benchmarked in parallel. Before the summer, the client confirmed that Mellifiq delivered the best treatment results at the lowest investment cost, and has decided to proceed the discussions with us. In the coming months, Mellifiq will engage in detailed technical dialogues and visit existing plants to support the client in meeting environmental discharge limits with sustainable, high-performance water treatment solutions.
