Ocean Reviver Named A Track A Semifinalist In XPRIZE Water Scarcity

Irvine, CA — Ocean Reviver Inc., a U.S.-based water technology company developing membrane-free electrochemical desalination systems, has been named a Track A semifinalist (top 20 of 674) in XPRIZE Water Scarcity, a $119 million, five-year global competition focused on enabling widespread access to clean water through reliable, affordable, and sustainable seawater desalination technologies.

As global water demand continues to outpace supply, desalination is becoming an important part of water infrastructure. Conventional technologies, however, remain constrained by energy use, system complexity, and operating costs. Ocean Reviver is developing QED™ (Quantum Electrochemical Desalination), a membrane-free electrochemical desalination system. The XPRIZE Water Scarcity Semifinalist Teams Book describes it as "a membrane-free, low-pressure seawater desalination technology that removes dissolved ions using controlled electric fields within a flow-through electrochemical reactor" (XPRIZE Water Scarcity Semifinalist Teams Book, May 2026, p. 28). The system is built on the modular ORCube® architecture, designed for deployment from distributed systems to larger installations, and the approach is designed to recover critical minerals from the brine.

Track A semifinalists advance to the next phase of the competition, where technologies are evaluated on real-world performance, energy efficiency, and scalability. Ocean Reviver is preparing to validate its system under integrated operating conditions, with a focus on practical deployment pathways and cost-effective operation.
