New Life For Pumping Stations

GPSD

Engineers at the Greater Peoria Sanitary District in Illinois are upgrading a 75-year-old pumping station to improve the efficiency and reliability of the sewer system. The station, located at the foot of Grandview Drive, was last upgraded 40 years ago and was in need of a complete overhaul. The new pumping station features state-of-the-art variable frequency drive pumps that can vary their operating speed, increasing flexibility and reducing wear on components.

Despite the challenges of fitting larger pumps into the small brick building, the engineers used 3D software to ensure a proper fit. The project, costing $1.3 million, is about 90% complete.
