METAWATER Signs Exclusive License Agreement For Nereda Wastewater Treatment Technology In Japan

Royal HaskoningDHV is pleased to announce our exclusive license agreement with METAWATER Co., Ltd. for the Nereda technology in Japan.

METAWATER is a leading company in the water and environmental sector, dedicated to developing, renewing, and maintaining infrastructure for a sustainable future. METAWATER provides comprehensive services and solutions for water, sewage and waste treatment projects.

METAWATER's strong local presence and understanding of the market will facilitate the adoption and growth of Nereda technology. The adoption of the technology aligns with METAWATER’s mission to reducing environmental impact and promoting energy-efficient solutions across Japan.

Nereda technology utilises aerobic granular sludge to treat wastewater more efficiently. Proven at full scale for over twenty years, Nereda has been applied for over 120 facilities, enabling wastewater treatment plants across six continents to increase capacity, enhance nutrient removal, and reduce operational costs – while reducing energy and chemical use.

METAWATER is the parent company of Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc., the Nereda technology licensee for the United States and Canada. Since 2016, Aqua-Aerobic Systems has successfully implemented the technology with 9 operational sites and another 40 in construction or submittals stage.
