Media Opportunity: Major Improvements To Water Treatment Plant

The City of Odessa is highlighting major improvements to the City’s Water Treatment Plant that have modernized operations and strengthened the infrastructure responsible for treating the community’s water.

The $75M project increased the plant’s treatment capacity from 40 million gallons per day to 55 million gallons per day and included several major upgrades:

  • Construction of a new 20-million-gallon-per-day settling basin featuring modern treatment technology
  • Renovations to the filter complex to improve efficiency
  • Replacement of aging hydraulic piping throughout the facility
  • Upgrades to electrical systems and chemical storage and delivery systems
  • Installation of a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, allowing operators to monitor and control plant operations from one central location
  • Numerous structural improvements throughout the Water Treatment Plant

The City receives its raw water through the Colorado River Municipal Water District (CRMWD), with water supplied from O.H. Ivie Reservoir, Lake J.B. Thomas, and E.V. Spence Reservoir.
