Managing Disparate Data In Leakage

Water utilities manage tremendous amounts of data across various business functions. Meter data are used for billing, work order management tracks and organizes operator activity, while pressure sensors and acoustic leak detectors are used to keep tabs on the health of the distribution network. Any one or more of these data sets can be used to help identify the existence or location of leaks. But more often than not, each resides in its own system, isolated from other databases, using unique formatting depending on the vendor in question. This often means operators must browse multiple systems and manually combine data to pinpoint the most critical leaks. Any mistakes can result in false positives or operators digging in the wrong spot, which can strain already tight budgets, labor, and other resources. By combining disparate data sources into a single system, water utilities can more easily glean insights and make more precise estimates about the size and location of leaks.
