KY DOT Uses Reinforced Filter Strip BMP to Enhance SW Quality

In 2002, the Kentucky Department of Transportation (KDOT) determined a need to widen the highway known as Paris Pike that runs from Lexington to Paris, Kentucky. Drivers on U.S. 68 travel through picturesque countryside, and preservign the natural beauty of the state's rural horse farms was a high priority during the project. KDOT wanted green shoulders, and a green median, but they also needed surfaces that could meet tough performance standards.
