John Meunier Inc., a Veolia Water Technologies company, introduces the Mectan V, a new generation of induced vortex grit removal system. This highly compact solution is engineered to efficiently remove grit over a wide range of particle sizes while providing robust, reliable performance in municipal wastewater pre-treatment applications.

The Mectan V capitalizes on the enhanced conical design of John Meunier’s original Mectan grit removal system. With its new revolutionary configuration, the unit has evolved into a highly dynamic system for increased grit removal over a wide range of hydraulic conditions, providing multiple outlet channel positioning options, low headloss, lower power requirement, and a decreased carbon footprint.

Based on CFD analysis and real-world results, the new design provides increased efficiency in fine grit removal (>20%). The patent-pending Mectan Variangle (Mectan V) design also provides for significant operating flexibility. The system allows the outlet channel to be positioned in any desired direction, thereby providing enhanced plant design flexibility of the tank’s lower outlet channel configuration. An optimized paddle mixer design maintains optimum grit removal conditions while limiting organics accumulation in the grit well. In addition, the vortex grit removal zone is completely separated from the flow outlet zone with an added steel separator disc in the tank, providing enhanced process stability and reliability.

John Meunier Inc. will formally introduce the new Mectan V grit removal system at the 84th Annual Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC 2011) which will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, California, October 17-19, Booth # 2525, South Hall.
