Iwater, the integrated water cycle trade fair organized by Fira de Barcelona, will attend Smart City Expo Latam Congress, the Latin American summit on smart cities, to be held in July in the city of Puebla (Mexico). Together with the Water Economy Forum, Iwater will be responsible for conducting the set of talks devoted to the water cycle and its smart and sustainable management in cities, industry and agriculture.

The upcoming edition of the Latin American event, organized by Fira de Barcelona Mexico with the support of the Mexican municipal, state and federal governments, will be held from 2 to 4 July at the Exhibition Centre in Puebla, bringing together leading experts and managers from Latin American cities, institutions and governments and companies engaged in technological development in the field of smart cities.

The topics to be covered during the congress will be addressed in talks, plenary sessions and debates and they will focus on economic and technological development, citizen empowerment and open government, energy and the environment, equality, learning and culture, urban and territorial mobility and planning, security and resilience and the water cycle.

The final theme, the conservation and optimization of water resources, will be conducted by Iwater in partnership with the Water Economy Forum, an initiative of the University of Alcalá that is a space for debate, knowledge and innovation within the sector. The central theme of the talks and panel discussions involving international experts and companies from the sector will be water, within the framework of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of the United Nations. They will debate the efficiency of the management of one of the planet’s resources facing the greatest threats and how to transform the models for its production and consumption.

The fourth Smart City Expo Latam Congress, which receives the institutional support of UN Habitat, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Development Bank of Latin America, will bring together 150 companies, 60 institutions and 350 cities set to take part in more than 280 talks. More than 13,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.

Iwater, the benchmark event for the water sector
Iwater, which is already preparing its next fair scheduled for November 2020, attracted exhibitors from 8 countries to the last one, held at the Gran Via venue in Barcelona in November. Technologies, products, solutions and services involved in the phases of the water cycle and the transformation of digitization in the sector and its resulting opportunities were showcased at the event.

One section of the congress, organized by the Water Economy Forum, was attended by 19 major experts, who analysed the value of water security, the digital revolution, the funding of infrastructures and sanitation and the regulation of water services in cities.

In addition, Iwater was held at the same time as Smart City Expo World Congress, the world’s leading smart city exhibition, which has been replicated in other cities around the globe, including Buenos Aires (Argentina), Curitiba (Brazil), Jaipur (India) and Kyoto (Japan), as well as Puebla.
