Traditional static sewer networks operate with rigid outflow limits that fail during heavy rainfall, leading to severe overflows, environmental damage, and structural flooding. Grundfos addresses this by introducing a dynamic sewer control system that uses real-time level and flow monitoring to intelligently coordinate pumps, valves, storage tanks, and pumping stations across the entire network. When storm conditions threaten a specific area, the smart logic automatically redirects capacity—increasing outflow from a filling station while throttling back a neighboring station with spare room—to balance the load and protect the wastewater treatment plant. Beyond eliminating manual operator intervention, the system allows utilities to strategically prioritize unavoidable spills to minimize ecological and financial damage, starting with a data-driven analysis of the user's specific network to quantify performance gains over static systems.
