GeoTrans has developed and applied Graphical Information Systems (GIS) to provide statistical evaluation of environmental data, database management, and compilation and presentation of data. GIS enables the analyst to identify and interpret environmental data as it relates to site-specific geochemical and hydrogeologic conditions. This tool also allows the presentation of data in an easily understandable and user-friendly format to audiences ranging from technical staff, regulators, and the general public. GeoTrans has certified ArcView training instructors. GeoTrans has also developed software to allow clients to easily access their environmental databases through an Internet connection.

GIS Data Management. GeoTrans has applied GIS programming expertise to facilitate data management and reporting at many sites throughout the U.S. Our experience includes the development of specialized macro and visual-basic codes which provided our clients with easy-to-use query routines for:

  • Efficiently determining quarterly exceedances for detection monitoring events;
  • Generating CUSUM control chart plots;
  • Posting of hydraulic head data and plotting potentiometric surface maps required for groundwater flow direction evaluations;
  • Performing statistical analyses including Mann-Kendall tests for trend analysis, Kruskal-Wallis tests for evaluating impacts and determining the new upper prediction limits for background exceedances using Bonferoni t tests; and
  • Performing upper prediction limit analyses ting time series plots for systems.

Application of these creative statistical methodologies have resulted in significant saving for our clients through avoidance of performing additional assessment monitoring as a result of false positive laboratory data.
