Fort Collins, CO — In-Situ, Inc. has announced the addition of a new member to their TROLL™ product line with the release of the Level TROLL™ 500, a complete solution for monitoring and recording changes in water level, pressure and temperature. Technical advancements integrated into the Level TROLL 500 eliminate problems commonly found in the industry while also providing the high accuracy, reliability and ease of use needed for long-term water level monitoring. Titanium and composite materials allow the 18.3mm (0.72 inch) diameter instrument to be confidently deployed without worry of corrosion. Enhanced electronic and sensor design provide long-term accuracy exceeding industry demands, with internal memory of 100,000 data points and options of internal or external power allowing deployment for years. A new Twist-Lockä connector eliminates worries of lost data and or communication failure while procedural and data errors are reduced through easy to use Windows-based software. The new Level TROLL 500 provides the confidence needed to perform highly accurate water level studies with a complete and integrated solution.
Rugged new system designed for long-term monitoring
The titanium Level TROLL 500 system is of primary interest to those who deploy instrumentation for the monitoring and recording of long-term water level changes in either monitoring wells or in open surface water. Pressure sensor accuracy has been verified to meet or exceed 0.05% of full-scale operation, while maintaining one of the smallest sensor diameters in the industry. With a small footprint of 18.3mm (0.72 inch) X 216mm (8.5 inch), the Level TROLL 500 can be easily deployed in sub-1inch wells. This form factor, combined with very high accuracy allow the user to choose one instrument for confident data collection in a wide variety of locations. The new instrument incorporates a fully sealed power cell, warranted for 5 years or 2,000,000 data points, whichever comes first, eliminating worry of system flooding while also imparting confidence in long-term deployment. Long-term deployment is further assured with optional external power accessories. Incorporating a new Twist-Lock connector, the system was extensively tested to provide sure attachment to the communication and deployment cable, therefore eliminating worry of communication failure or error. Offered in both gauged (vented) and absolute (non-vented) versions, the system ensures correct water level measurements, compensated for atmospheric fluctuations. Additionally, an optional external barometer (Baro TROLL™) is available for use with the absolute (non-vented) version of the Level TROLL 500, with seamless integration of barometric pressure compensation performed through software. The Level TROLL 500 comes standard with the ability to communicate via Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, 4-20mA, SDI-12 and RS-485/232, providing the most flexible communications suite on the market.

Software included with the Level TROLL 500 system was designed to be both user-friendly and intuitive while allowing the power to perform even the most demanding long-term aquifer studies. Software features as well as those found in the entire system were incorporated from extensive customer input to provide an easy to use, yet powerful solution. Some highlights of the new software features include: Management of data by location – including the ability to input GPS coordinates, the ability to pause and resume a test, automatic logging of system events and enhanced test setup wizards- all features which ultimately save time as well as reduce aggravation and error. The titanium Level TROLL 500 is a compact 18.3mm (.72 inch) diameter water level probe, which internally records Temperature, Pressure, Level and Depth. The Level TROLL 500 interfaces with a PC, the RuggedReader®, a waterproof (IP-67) Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), SDI-12 loggers, all common PLCs and any device capable of 4-20mA or Modbus interface.
