HydroCowl Enclosures

The original Safe-T-Cover enclosure design was created by an under-ground utility contractor. Since the beginning of modern plumbing, the standard installation of backflow preventers, meters, control valves, and related water appurtenances has been below-ground in a brick or concrete vault. The need for a standardized, pre-engineered, above ground enclosure became apparent through experiencing the magnitude of excavation required, the personnel safety liability, the access difficulties for testing or maintenance and installation cost of the below ground vault. HydroCowl, Inc. began selling prefabricated enclosures in 1988. The Safe-T-Cover trade name for the products was adopted in 1998. The Safe-T-Cover design incorporates the attributes the installing contractor requires:
  • Easy installation
  • durable materials
  • proven field performance
  • economically priced
Through education of water purveyors, engineers, and contractors, above ground installation of backflow prevention, control valves, and water meters in prefabricated enclosures has become the standard in many areas. For the same installed cost as below ground(or less in some cases), above ground installation provides safe access for one man to perform maintenance or testing, protects equipment from becoming submerged, and avoids the liability of potential injury.
