How Superior Fresh Is Pioneering Sustainable Aquaculture With Pinnacle Ozone Solutions

Superior Fresh CS

Superior Fresh is the first farm in the United States to combine Atlantic salmon aquaculture with organic leafy green cultivation in a fully integrated, sustainable system. The Wisconsin-based operation is designed to recycle 99.9% of its water while eliminating wastewater discharge by converting fish waste nutrients into fertilizer for crops. Maintaining exceptional water quality is essential to the success of this closed-loop ecosystem.

To support healthy fish growth and maintain operational efficiency, Superior Fresh required a dependable ozone generation system capable of continuously purifying water. Key goals included removing organic compounds that discolor water, eliminating fine solids that traditional filtration systems cannot capture, and ensuring uninterrupted performance in a demanding aquaculture environment.

After evaluating available technologies, Superior Fresh selected Pinnacle Ozone Solutions to provide a high-performance ozone generation system. With more than two decades of experience working with ozone technologies, Chief Science Officer Dr. Steven Summerfelt identified Pinnacle’s system as the most reliable and effective option for the facility’s needs.

The ozone system helps break down tannins and organic matter that can cause tea-colored water, significantly improving water clarity. It also promotes micro-flocculation, allowing extremely fine particles to aggregate so they can be removed more easily through filtration. The result is consistently clean, stable water conditions that support fish health and overall system performance.

Since installation, the system has delivered continuous, reliable operation with minimal maintenance. Its durability has even been demonstrated during extreme events, including a lightning strike that damaged facility controls but left the ozone system unaffected. As Superior Fresh prepares to expand operations, Pinnacle’s technology will continue to play a key role in maintaining water quality and supporting sustainable aquaculture.
