High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis

Hydrometrics, Inc.ciency Reverse Osmosis (HERO) system was recently designed by Hydrometrics for treating industrial wastewater. HERO is a novel pre-treatment sequence that allows reverse osmosis to be effectively applied to a broader range of industrial wastewaters, and can be retrofit to existing reverse osmosis systems to improve efficiency. The system is highly resistant to fouling, provides high recovery, and lowers operation and maintenance costs. This new approach will allow many industrial facilities to achieve zero liquid discharge, water reuse, and/or water conservation.

HERO technology achieves regulatory effluent limits for all parameters. The process eliminates membrane scaling and fouling on industrial wastewaters without the use of pre-filtration, activated carbon or anti-scalants — even on wastewater with up to 20,000 ppm total dissolved solids (TDS), elevated Silt Density Index (SDI), or oil and grease. In so doing, HERO can operate at a recovery of 95%, and it achieves a 5-fold reduction in waste volume and 2-3 times higher flux when compared with most conventional reverse osmosis systems.
