"Hi-Pass" Sludge Mixer

The KOMAX “Hi-Pass” Sludge Mixer will reduce polymer consumption and costs

Komax Systems Inc.X “Hi-Pass” Sludge Mixer will reduce polymer consumption and costs and will produce dryer cake solids in de-watering operations. It is particularly suited for use in the feed line prior to devices such as belt filter presses, plate filter presses, gravity belt thickeners, centrifuges, and pressure or vacuum filters. Polymer savings in excess of 25% can be achieved. Mixers are constructed of stainless, carbon steel or PVC. Features of this unit include:

  • Mixing Efficiency – Each mixing element set sweeps approximately two thirds of the circumference of the pipe, directing the flow to the opposite side, generating very strong “wall-to-wall” radial transfer. The standard four-element set includes three inter-set cavities where intensive contacting occurs, due to strong momentum reversal and flow impingement.
Performance is not dependent on any standing or trailing vortex phenomena; hence it is very insensitive to variations or perturbations in the incoming flow. All required mixing occurs within the mixer’s length. No downstream clear or free flow lengths are required to complete the mixing.
  • Non-Fouling Design – This mixer is designed to be extremely resistant to fouling or clogging. The edges of the elements are smoothly contoured with a large radius. The intersections of elements with the pipe walls are all oblique angles, eliminating corners that can trap solid or fibrous materials and begin material accumulation. Momentum reversal and flow impingement provides a “self-cleaning” environment. The “Hi-Pass” design will readily pass individual solid items with a nominal diameter up to ¼ that of the mixer.
  • Engineered Injector – Each mixer is equipped with an injector manifold designed to present the diluted polymer solution to the sludge flow for optimum efficiency. Better dispersion of the small amount of solution through the mixing elements is achieved. The combined effect of superior mixer design and the engineered injector leads to lower consumption of polymer.
