Hera Group Finds The Source Of Its Wastewater Contamination

Hera's Sassualo WWTP, which is located in the province of Modena, produces around 90 tons of sludge a week. However, most of it was contaminated and could not be repurposed to serve agricultural applications.
This meant that most of the sludge had to be disposed to a landfill at a prohibitive cost of £200/ton, while creating a negative impact on the environment.
Although Hera had noticed high Zinc (Zn) levels in the generated sludge, they did not have the visibility needed to track the source of the contamination to prevent it. As part of its effort to prevent heavy metal contamination resulting from landfill disposals, Hera decided it needed to increase visibility into its wastewater network to track the source of contamination.
