Get To Know The Water Council — An Organization Of Influence

WEFTEC2014RadioPhotos030

Dean Amhaus is president of The Water Council, an economic development organization focused on water technology, but he doesn’t have a background in the water industry. Why, then, is he a good fit, and what does The Water Council hope to achieve?

“I see The Water Council and my job as being a broker, getting people together,” says Amhaus. He cites examples such as AT&T, General Mills, and pulp-and-paper giant Georgia Pacific as companies that The Water Council, along with the Alliance for Water Stewardship, seeks to help.

“You think, ‘what do they have to do with water?’ Well, think about how much water is used in their facilities. We're trying to address their water issues, and it frankly is going to help them on their bottom line. They may have, certainly, a consciousness of saying ‘we have to reduce our water usage,’ but it is [also] going to save on their energy bill.”

Amhaus goes on to describe the water cluster that exists in The Water Council’s home base of Milwaukee, WI, and the long-term plans for the Council. He also discusses the state of the industry, and how the collaborations with the Alliance for Water Stewardship and investment firm J.P. Morgan Chase will create sustainable solutions for water and wastewater operations moving forward.
