Flowserve Chesapeake Pump Facility To Celebrate One Million Consecutive Hours Without Accident
As part of the celebration, there will be a town hall meeting at 9:00 a.m. followed by a plant tour at 10:30 a.m. One of the highlights of the day will be a clambake scheduled at 11:00 a.m. FPD President Tom Ferguson stated, "The entire management team at FPD is committed to increasing the already considerable focus on our safety efforts. A million safe hours is built by many small actions, minute by minute, by individuals who believe in Flowserve's cultural commitment to safety excellence. We're very proud of the management team and employees of Chesapeake and this remarkable accomplishment."
The last lost workday accident at Chesapeake occurred on April 4, 2001. From that time until achieving the one million workhours mark, the employees at Chesapeake worked 30 consecutive months without a lost time accident. This achievement translates into over 750 days of continuous operation with an average employment of 210 people on site. In addition, during that period, Flowserve Chesapeake reduced minor accidents by nearly 60 percent.
Flowserve's corporate commitment to safety excellence is evidenced by the fact that Flowserve facilities in North America have received 98 awards from the National Safety Council since 1990 in recognition of their safety performance excellence. In addition, another FPD facility in Vernon, California, owns the longest known period of successive workhours without a lost time accident in the pump industry (over two million hours). Flowserve also owns the record for the longest known successive period without a lost time accident in the mechanical seals industry as well.
