Florida Aquastore's Wastewater Division was awarded two wastewater projects valued at $1.5M to rehab and upgrade wastewater treatment plants in Nevis and Aruba. These two projects add to the significant growth realized by Florida Aquastore's 2016 wastewater treatment operations. Florida Aquastore's Director of Wastewater, Chris Sullivan, stated "we are excited to see where the growing demands of our clients and environmental regulatory agencies are leading us throughout our core markets. It is widely apparent that municipalities, private companies, and regulatory agencies alike have effective wastewater treatment as a core focus area of their respective agendas - we are pleased to offer to our cost effective, industry leading wastewater treatment solutions to meet these growing and dynamic needs. "

The first award includes a 70,000 gallons per day (GPD) wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) that Florida Aquastore designed and constructed for the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis in 1988. The plant was subsequently expanded to 105,000 GPD in 1999. Increased tourism and the addition of villas have resulted in significantly higher flow rates. Florida Aquastore was awarded a contract for the complete renovation and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant to 130,000 GPD to accommodate the treatment needs of this growing resort. The rehabilitation of the plant will include a larger clarifier to accommodate higher flows, and replacements and/or upgrades of the walkways and handrails on all tanks, mechanical screens, internal aeration piping and diffuser systems for each tank, tertiary filter, and plant controls and instrumentation.

The second award includes a 100,000 GPD Wastewater Treatment Plant that was designed and constructed by Florida Aquastore in 1994 to treat wastewater from 260 homes in the Tierra del Sol Development in Aruba. After 22 years of operation and exposure to corrosive wastewater gases and the salt-air coastal environment, the internal equipment required maintenance and repair. Florida Aquastore will replace all of the existing internal components, install new electrical and mechanical components, and will offer its onsite training and expertise during the plant restart. Aquastore's Director of Wastewater, Chris Sullivan, noted that the four Aquastore Glass-Fused-To-Steel tanks are in good condition, requiring minimal maintenance to be put back into service. "Clients are always pleased with the durability of the Aquastore technology in their plants and the cost savings that the glass-fused-of steel technology offers because of its extremely low maintenance", stated Sullivan.

The plant is designed to operate in the activated sludge extended aeration mode reducing typical raw sewage with a BOD and Suspend Solid of 250 mg/1 down to an effluent of less than 20 mg/1 BOC and Suspended Solids. The final flow will be chlorinated and pumped into the on-site large Aquastore effluent storage tanks.
