EPCOR

EPCOR is one of Canada's premier suppliers of essential elements for living - power, water, natural gas and related products and services. Headquartered in Edmonton, the company has assets of $2.3 billion, annual revenue in excess of $1 billion and 1,600 employees.

Our proud history of innovation and service dates back to 1891 when The Edmonton Electric Light and Power Company was established. It became a municipal utility in 1902 and was joined by the City's water branch a year later. The company became known as Edmonton Power in 1970.

In preparation for deregulation of Alberta's power industry, EPCOR was incorporated as an entity separate from the City in 1996. The company is governed by an independent board of directors with the City of Edmonton as its sole shareholder.

The EPCOR master brand was introduced in 1999 with the consolidation of Edmonton Power, Aqualta (water services) and ‘eltec' (commercial services) into a single company with six lines of business:

  • Generation - EPCOR is the second largest power generator in Alberta with 1,700 MW of capacity, representing about 22 per cent of the province's supply.
  • Distribution and Transmission - The company operates 600 km of high voltage transmission wires which form part of the Alberta provincial power grid and 9,100 km of primary distribution wires that provide energy and related services to 230,000 residential customers and 27,000 businesses in Edmonton. Distribution & Transmission Commercial Services provides a range of products and services to the utility, municipal and commercial markets across Canada. Product lins include traffic signals and street lighting, electric meters, instrumentation, and high voltage testing.
  • Energy Services - EPCOR retails electricity, natural gas, "green power" and other competitive services to residential and business customers in Alberta.
  • Water Services - The company provides water purification, distribution and management services to more than 1 million residents of communities in western Canada.
  • Power Development - EPCOR is developing new unregulated generating stations in Canada through partnerships and joint ventures.
