Enhancing Data Capabilities For Greenville Water Utility

The Greenville Water Utility in Indiana is leveraging Qatium to enhance its water management and leak detection capabilities, significantly improving service efficiency. Superintendent Stephen Webb recently utilized the platform to identify a suspected leak amid rising consumption rates, successfully narrowing the search area and facilitating repairs much faster than traditional methods would allow.
With a commitment to modernizing their infrastructure, Greenville has integrated various technologies, including SCADA and smart meters, with hopes of increasing smart meter adoption from 35% to 50-60%. This shift is crucial in addressing the pressing issue of water scarcity, driven by population growth, agricultural demands, and climate change in Indiana.
Before implementing Qatium, leaks accounted for 25-28% of the utility's water loss; now, that figure has dropped to 15-18%. The platform's Demand Spike plugin allowed Webb to isolate the leak's location effectively, highlighting the advantages of advanced data integration.
Looking ahead, Greenville plans to enhance its data capabilities further by expanding smart meter coverage and adding pressure sensors for better leakage detection. Webb and his team’s dedication to innovation and continuous learning underscores their proactive approach to managing water resources in an era of increasing challenges.
