East Bay Municipal Utility District And Titus Wastewater Systems Receive Engineering Achievement Award For Gaseous Ozone Odor Control System Installation At Pump Station M
Titus Wastewater Solutions is proud to announce that they have jointly received the prestigious Engineering Achievement Award from the California Water Environment Association with East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) for their collaborative work on the installation of a Gaseous Ozone Odor Control System at EBMUD’s Pump Station M. The award recognizes the successful integration of the Titus Twister aeration unit with ozone generation and carbon canisters, a groundbreaking solution that has transformed odor control at the facility.
The system, which was installed with minimal disruption to the ongoing project, addressed longstanding odor issues at the pump station. Prior to the upgrade, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas levels in the wet well were at an average of 2.8 parts per million (ppm), resulting in frequent odor complaints from the surrounding community. After the installation of the Titus Twister system and carbon canisters, H2S levels dropped to just 0.4 ppm, and no further odor complaints have been received.
The transition from sodium hypochlorite dosing to the ozone based system has provided significant benefits beyond odor control. The new system eliminates the need for hazardous chemical deliveries, reduces operational and maintenance costs, mitigates issues from buildup of FOG and rags, and enhances safety and sustainability at the wastewater treatment facility. This upgrade has created a safer, more reliable, and environmentally-friendly solution for the community.
