Dow And Haier Strengthen Strategic Alliance By Signing FILMTEC Component Trademark License Agreement

• Agreement is a part of the newly launched ingredient branding program focused on residential drinking water, Haier is the sixth trademark licensee
• Advanced Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology helps generate cleaner, safer drinking water

Dow Water & Process Solutions (“DW&PS”), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, has signed on its sixth trademark licensee as a part of the newly launched FILMTEC Reverse Osmosis (RO) ingredient branding program. This program is designed to help improve residential water treatment through collaboration with well-known local brands. Haier Group, a leading multinational home appliances and consumer electronics company, is the latest official licensee to partner with Dow to help enhance the quality of residential water for consumers in China.

Haier Group will use DW&PS’s advanced FILMTEC RO Technology inside its residential water purification system and filtration products. In addition, Haier is authorized to use the FILMTEC RO Inside elements composite logo on its water filtration products and its water filtration marketing materials. Other companies that have partnered with Dow include Midea Water Appliances (China), Angel (China), Rusfilter LLC (Russia), KAROFi (Vietnam) and Kent RO Systems Ltd. (India).

With more than 30 years of experience in water treatment and a proven track record of performance and reliability, Dow is a preferred supplier of reverse osmosis elements for home water treatment systems. The advanced FILMTEC RO Technology helps facilitate clean, safe water for cooking and drinking straight from the tap by helping reject dissolved impurities and contaminants.

“This program provides a growth platform for strong regional brand owners in the residential market by capitalizing on the proven success of FILMTEC RO Technology by Dow,” said Snehal Desai, Global Business Director, DW&PS. “In emerging geographies, industry standards are in their infancy, making it difficult for consumers to discern good from bad home drinking water treatment systems. Consumers seek trusted and reliable suppliers. Ultimately, consumers will have peace of mind about the quality of their drinking water systems when they utilize products enabled by our market-leading technology.”

“Dow is a global leader in the R&D of water separation and purification technologies,” said Mr. Guinan Qu, Director, Haier water purification. “As the world’s leading home appliance manufacturer, Haier welcomes Dow as its strategic partner. This alliance allows both companies to showcase and expand the reach of advanced water purification technology in China and to help provide safe drinking water for Chinese consumers.”

The R&D innovation collaboration history between Dow and Haier can be traced back to 2009. The two parties jointly held an innovation workshop in 2009 covering various business opportunities, followed by a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on a global technical partnership signed in 2010. The FILMTEC RO partnership is a new expansion into the residential water treatment business and a further extension of the strategic cooperation of the two companies.
