Overview

Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection is environmentally safe and recognized as effective for a wide range of pathogens, including viruses. For more than 20 years, the AQUARAY® UV disinfection systems have offered proven disinfection alternatives to protect the environment from toxic byproducts formed when hazardous chemicals, like chlorine, combine with organic compounds in receiving waters.

UV systems disinfect by inactivating pathogenic microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria and parasites which may be in the water and may cause waterborne disease.

In the broad light Spectrum, the UV-C wavelength (200-280 nm) has been proven to be the most efficient wavelength to inactivate microorganisms by damaging the nucleic acids (DNA or RNA), which in turns the organism’s ability to reproduce.

The germicidal effectiveness of a UV system is dependant on various water properties such as UV transmission, flow rate and the applied UV dose, which is a function of the UV intensity delivered by the lamps and the exposure time in the reactor.

Ozonia has developed UV products for three different markets: Municipal Wastewater, Municipal Drinking Water, and Industry.

Municipal Wastewater
In order to protect the natural environment (like rivers, lakes, seas …) more and more strict regulations are implemented to limit the pathogenic microorganisms rejection. On the arid area, due to water scarcity, a part of the treated wastewater can also be used for a reuse application such as land sprinkling, golf irrigation… And over the past 20 years, Ozonia is providing UV disinfection system for:

  • Secondary or tertiary treatment disinfection
  • CSO & SSO applications
  • Reuse for irrigation

Municipal Drinking Water
UV systems are used as a final barrier in the drinking water treatment plant to disinfect the water by inactivating* the pathogenic microorganisms like viruses, bacteria and parasites. The UV-C lights are particularly efficient for the chlorine resistant microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, even with low dose. So to reduce the risk to be affected by a waterborne diseases, more and more countries are implementing strict limits on these pathogens through new regulations.

Ozonia can always offer the better compromise between the higher efficiency and the smaller footprint with Low or Medium pressure UV reactors for smaller to very large Water Treatment Plant. (*to inactive: Stop growth and reproduction of microorganisms)
