DEXSORB® Treatment Of Landfill Leachate

Source: Cyclopure
landfill-leachate-NH

Landfill leachate represents one of the most challenging wastewater streams to treat, featuring complex background matrices and total per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) concentrations exceeding 80,000 ppt. While biological treatment systems like Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) effectively stabilize organic compounds and nutrients, target fluorinated contaminants pass through intact, necessitating a targeted polishing step. Integrating cyclodextrin-based packed-bed filtration downstream of an MBR offers a continuous single-step removal process. Operating across 218 days and treating nearly 280,000 gallons of post-MBR effluent, this approach maintained flawless hydraulic performance without biofouling or mechanical backwashing requirements. The system sustained complete removal of long-chain compounds like PFOS while maintaining significant capacity across diverse PFAS compounds. Review the complete case study to evaluate removal efficiency data and throughput metrics.
