Detroit's Lead Service Line Replacement Program Success Story
The Detroit Water & Sewerage Department has partnered with BlueConduit to launch a Lead Service Line Replacement Program, with the goal of removing lead from the water supply. Detroit has more individual lead service lines than any other city in Michigan, with an original estimate of 120,000. However, through BlueConduit's predictive modeling system, they were able to save costs and streamline the replacement process, reducing the estimated lead service lines to 80,000.
The program has been successful in making Detroit's water safe and clean to drink, and the department recommends other utilities to have a conversation with BlueConduit to help inventory and replace lead service lines in their communities.
