The market’s first packaged system with integrated IMO and IECEx/ATEX Certification for hazardous rated marine and offshore installations

De Nora today announces that their latest generation OMNIPURE sewage treatment system has achieved IMO and BV Marine Type Approval certification. The OMNIPURETMSeries 64 G2 Ex, approved for IECEx and ATEX certification by CML in 2019, is the first marine sewage treatment system with IMO, IECEx and ATEX certifications in a single, off-the-shelf packaged unit. Rated for both non-hazardous and hazardous marine and offshore installations, the OMNIPURE Series 64 G2 Ex has also been verified for IEC, EN IEC, and ISO standards for explosive atmospheres and meets IMO MEPC.227(64) and USCG 33 CFR 159 discharge standards.

“These certifications are an exciting development for De Nora customers because we can now offer both non-hazardous and hazardous area rated sewage treatment systems as a single standardized and certified product without the need to design, evaluate, test and certify individual components.” said Dana Casbeer, De Nora Product Technology Manager. “This alleviates the often-high cost burden passed onto customers who want to achieve overall technical design and compliance adherence normally encountered on a project-to-project basis.”

These latest generation OMNIPURE treatment systems feature a pioneering reverse polarity electrode technology that not only generates an effective oxidant for the disinfection of the sewage stream but also creates the ‘patent-pending’ non-air based electroflotation effect that separates clear water from flocculated solids. OMNIPURE marine sewage treatment units, all equipped with De Nora’s proprietary DSA® electrodes, offer effective treatment of both black and gray water and have a treatment capacity of up to 13,209 gallons per day per unit, which can be combined for increased capacity. OMNIPURE™ Series 64 G2 and G2 Ex units have been designed for marine and offshore installations requiring permanent or long-term operation for the treatment of marine sewage.

“It is extremely important that the selected IECEx and ATEX components for type approved Marine Sewage Treatment Systems are environmentally tested per IMO and Class Society requirements, and are marine type approved,” commented Sehul Patel, De Nora R&D engineer II. “ The safety of our customer is paramount at De Nora: the regulatory compliance and the hazardous area classification of OMNIPURE systems are something we are pride to offer for all our installations offshore.”

The OMNIPURE line of marine sewage treatment systems include units that meet rigorous IMO MEPC.2(V), MEPC.159(55), MEPC.227(64), and 33 CFR Part 159 discharge standards.
