Curio Water Supports Water Industry In Ozone Compliance To Tackle Micropollutants

Curio is advising UK water companies on how to streamline the application process for ozone compliance under UK REACH regulations.

Curio Water is supporting the UK water industry to navigate UK REACH regulations for ozone usage in water and wastewater treatment.

Curio’s appointment comes amidst growing interest across the industry in using ozone-based oxidation processes to tackle micropollutants in wastewater effectively.

Since the establishment of UK REACH on January 1, 2021, companies seeking approval to use ozone in oxidation treatment processes for water and wastewater have been required to register and submit through the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The application process, supported by EurO3zon - a body formed to facilitate the transition from EU to UK regulations - had proved challenging due to the specialist nature of the HSE data submission requirements coupled with the uncertainty and complexity of the overall regulatory procedures following Brexit.

Curio Group has overcome this by developing a comprehensive dossier in collaboration with water scientists and key industry stakeholders. This standardised approach now enables water companies to navigate the application process more efficiently and comply with the stringent safety and environmental standards outlined in UK REACH.

Howard Marles, CEO of Curio Water, said:
“We are working with all the water companies, leveraging our experience working with ozone across Europe and in the UK to put together a dossier that can support companies with the application process and provide a consistent approach to meeting HSE approval requirements.”

“As awareness of tackling micropollutants in wastewater grows, more water companies are interested in integrating ozone into their treatment systems. We’re happy to report that we now have an established dossier and application process with EurO3zon to help them comply with the REACH UK regulations to ensure the safe and effective use of ozone.”
