New germicidal UVC LEDs will be used to treat viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens in water, surface and airborne environments
Crystal IS today announced the successful completion of technology and production improvements to its Klaran product line which provides higher performing devices, at higher yields and corresponding lower costs. These enhancements come at a key time for manufacturers using germicidal UVC to combat water, surface and airborne pathogens.
In addition to its existing Klaran 60 mW UVC LED, Crystal IS is adding a 70 mW UVC LED for immediate production use and an 80 mW engineering sample to its WD Series. All devices will take advantage of in-house production improvements which lower forward voltage and result in a tighter wavelength specification of 260 nm to 270 nm – the ideal germicidal range. Klaran WD Series devices will be priced under 15 cents per mW with supply agreement.
“The completed production and technology improvements fulfill the promise of Crystal IS’ proprietary Aluminum Nitride substrates; high yields of high output devices at deep UV wavelengths,” said Eoin Connolly, VP, Product Management. “Klaran continues to focus and achieve key milestones which allow us to deliver the products, performance and price needed to meet the needs of global germicidal markets. Our rigorous testing, in-house microbiological facilities and ISO 9001:2015 quality system provide the data-driven proof of the reliability, performance and efficacy of our products.”
The Klaran product line leverages the unique properties of Crystal IS’ Aluminum Nitride to provide premium germicidal UVC LEDs and associated modules to treat water, air and surfaces for healthcare, consumer appliances and commercial water treatment.
As the leading choice for the world’s top appliance and equipment manufacturers, Klaran offers an international, award-winning team of application engineers to provide hands-on support for prototyping, testing and validation of its UVC LED solutions. For more information, visit klaran.com.
About Crystal IS
Crystal IS, an Asahi Kasei company and ISO 9001:2015 certified, is a pioneer in the development and commercialization of Aluminum Nitride substrates. Aluminum Nitride’s wider bandgap capability means that devices grown on Aluminum Nitride can more effectively (technically and economically) emit at the deeper ultraviolet (UVC) wavelengths than devices grown on sapphire. Crystal IS products are used to produce high performance UVC LEDs for environmental monitoring and disinfection in a variety of applications that enhance and sustain life and living around the world.
