Condition Monitoring Agreement Will Protect Welsh Water Assets

Leiden, The Netherlands — Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) has signed a three-year agreement with industrial artificial intelligence (AI) specialist Samotics for the on-going predictive condition monitoring of critical wastewater assets across its estate. This will help the water company intervene much earlier on potential incidents that could lead to pollution and unplanned downtime.

Samotics' SAM4 system has been monitoring a selection of Welsh Water's wastewater assets since 2022. The new three-year agreement, which runs until 2029, places that work on a longer-term footing and reflects DCWW's strategic move towards predictive, condition-based maintenance to protect the health of its assets and reduce the risk of environmental harm.

The Samotics SAM4 technology uses electrical signature analysis (ESA) to monitor equipment remotely from the motor control cabinet, with AI analysing the current and voltage signals from pumps and motors. This makes it possible to monitor hard-to-reach and submerged assets continuously, without installing sensors on the equipment itself, and to flag developing problems early enough for teams to act before they escalate.
