Compact Plant In EnviModul Treats Wastewater From Cardboard Processing

Falken chooses wastewater treatment from EnviroChemie

Falken GmbH, a company belonging to the Exacompta-Clairefontaine Group, distributes high-quality office supplies under the Falken and Exacompta brands, as well as many private labels, in Germany and Europe. At its file segment facility in Pietz, Germany, Falken produces 3–5 m³ of wastewater containing glue every day in the letter folder production area. The limit values for the treated wastewater are set at max. 20 mg/l for hydrocarbons and a pH value in the neutral range 6.5–9.5.

Following an expansion in production, the existing twenty-year-old wastewater treatment plant also needed to be moved from its old location and updated. The new Split-O-Mat 500 LB physico-chemical wastewater treatment plant was designed in an EnviModul plant room for outdoor installation.

Using a water sample from the customer, EnviroChemie conducted tests in its own laboratory. The results showed that a primary splitting agent from EnviroChemie’s Envifloc product range was able to reliably reduce the hydrocarbon content to below the required limit value. A liquid neutralisation agent was chosen to regulate the pH value.

Before treatment, the wastewater is collected in a buffer tank measuring 3 m3 . The Split-OMat 500 LB plant treats 500 litres of wastewater per batch. A pH probe is used to control the dosage of a liquid neutralisation agent. Following treatment, the clear water can be discharged into the public sewer system. The sludge is dehydrated using a belt filter and collected in a sludge container for external disposal.

The new wastewater treatment plant was successfully put into service in September 2025.

Falken also operates another Split-O-Mat SOM 1100 wastewater treatment plant at the same site, in its cardboard products segment.

EnviroChemie provides the water treatment products for plant operation and conducts regular inspections.
