Case Study: Commercial Application - Arsenic Removal System
The As/50 COM-3 Total* Arsenic Removal System is designed and manufactured by Aquatic Treatment Systems, Inc. (ATS), of Scituate, Massachusetts. The System was installed and started-up in August 2005. The System is designed to remove arsenic, iron and manganese at a treatment flow rate of up to 50 gallons per minute and daily usage up to 15,000 gallons per day.
System Description
The As/50 COM-3 Total Arsenic Removal system is made up of three parallel trains (A, B and C) of duplicate treatment tanks and operates automatically on demand. The System receives water from the well and provides treated water a 4,500 gallon atmospheric storage tank. Each treatment train is made up of four 13" diameter by 54" tall sealed polyglass tanks connected in series. Column 1 in each train contains 2.5 cubic feet of ATS A/P Complex 2002 Oxidation Media, with the primary function to oxidize Arsenic III to Arsenic V and a secondary function to remove iron and manganese. Columns 2, 3 and 4 in each train contain 2.5 cubic feet of ATS A/I Complex 2000 Arsenic Adsorption Media with the primary function to remove arsenic. The System's performance is monitored monthly, testing various parameters after each column to verify removal of the target ions. The media columns are replaced with fresh media when the certified laboratory analysis indicates that the "worker" column is no longer removing the target ion. The System's fail safe design allows for the back-up "guard" columns to remove any and all of the target ion that is not removed by the "worker" column. The System occupies approximately thirty-six (36) square feet of floor space and is a flow-through System. The System requires no routine maintenance such as backwashing or chemical additives. Every ATS system is built with equipment, parts and fittings that meet NSF/ANSI Standard 61: Drinking Water System Components-Health Effects. Each system is sold with a 100% money back performance guarantee.
