Children's Water Activity Booklets Now Available From AWWA
Teacher's guides also available for both booklets
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) announced recently the publication of two new children's water activity books: Water Wonderful and The Story of Drinking Water.
Water Wonderful is intended for children kindergarten through third grade, and includes 10 activities to help them explore the wonderful world of water, including word games, a maze, and a water-use diary. The booklet features 16 pages of colorful, age-appropriate illustrations that support the many engaging activities. Children can explore water basics, such as the water cycle, water's role in weather, water use in the home, and water treatment.
The Water Wonderful teacher's guide is designed to be used in conjunction with the Water Wonderful booklet, but may also be used alone. It includes 25 activities, a glossary of water terms, list of online resources, and a table of the water content of selected foods. Each activity includes an objective, curriculum area, taxonomy, science processes taught, the materials and time needed for completion, directions, and questions to ask. It also meets U.S. federal science curriculum standards.
The newly updated The Story of Drinking Water is designed for children grades four through six, and tells the fascinating story of water's role in history, water sources, the hydrologic cycle, water and weather, and water treatment basics. The all-new edition features 24 pages of content and activities, brought to life with fun illustrations. This AWWA best-seller makes an ideal handout for plant tours or school visits. The companion The Story of Drinking Water Teacher's Guide provides a complete curriculum on water with 33 activities covering all water topics, such as the forms of water, water supply, water distribution, conservation, and waterborne disease. All student activities can be done with little or no extra equipment and student activity sheets can be duplicated for individual use.
The Story of Drinking Water, Water Wonderful and the teacher's guides are available in AWWA's online bookstore.
