CH2M HILL At Singapore International Water Week 2012

Showcasing sustainable solutions that protect the world’s water

CH2M HILL, recently named Water Company of the Year in the Global Water Awards, will share its technical expertise and projects during Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) from 1 to 5 July, as a founding sponsor.

Approximately 14,000 water professionals and elected officials from 99 countries attend the conference. The theme of the conference this year is “Water Solutions for Liveable and Sustainable Cities.” The conference aims to reinforce the need to integrate sustainable water management strategies into the urban planning process, recognizing the many challenges that affect the urban environment, such as climate change and the management of watersheds and river basins.

At the SIWW Water Convention, CH2M HILL will highlight its experience with water / wastewater conveyance, water and wastewater treatment, river cleanup, water recycle and reuse facilities, desalination, membrane technology and climate change adaptation.

“CH2M HILL is pleased to be a founding sponsor of Singapore International Water Week. The conference provides a forum for thought leadership and idea exchange that is critical at a time when many nations are facing severe water-energy-food nexus challenges,” says Bob Card, President of CH2M HILL’s Energy, Water and Facilities Division. “This is an important event for water generators and users to share global best practices in managing our water resources. We applaud Singapore for not only hosting the event, but also for leading the world in implementing solutions to become a sustainable, water independent nation.”

Often sustainable solutions are developed when the idea of what is a “waste” or a “resource” is reconsidered.  As part of CH2M HILL’s efforts to continue to help the water industry think about wastewater as a resource stream, and a valuable one at that, CH2M HILL Vice President and Reuse Principal Technologist Linda Macpherson and Glen Daigger, CH2M HILL Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and President of the International Water Association, will host a workshop on 1 July called, “ReThinking the Three Rs of Wastewater—Recoverable Resources and Reusable Water.”

Dr. Daigger will also be giving a Water Convention Keynote Plenary on 3 July, discussing water and wastewater treatment technologies for the cites of the future.

Water is necessary for economic growth and prosperity and is a key component of the energy-water-food nexus. With population growth and climate risk, managing industrial water resources is becoming increasingly complex. Water issues are becoming more prominent as we struggle with the disparity among water availability and demands, water pollution, and competition for limited water resources. As water scarcity and competition for high-quality water becomes more prevalent, the risk to industry rises. Card will address these risks, and sustainable solutions, during the Industrial Water Solutions Forum on 3 July.

Neil Reynolds, CH2M HILL’s International Operations Director of the Water Business Group, will participate in the India Business Forum on 3 July. David Middleton, CH2M HILL’s Australia and New Zealand Regional Water Business Group Manager, will participate in the Australia Business Forum on 4 July.

A number of CH2M HILL employees will be giving platform and poster presentations throughout the week on topics ranging from incorporating climate change assessment into infrastructure planning, to leveraging contaminant warning systems, to crossing water, carbon and energy boundaries. In addition, CH2M HILL will host a series of technical presentations on deep tunnel sewers, flood management in an urban environment, and optimizing planning solutions at its booth #M26 during scheduled tea breaks.
