Cutting Costs, Not Corners: How PRI-TECH® Transformed Biosolids Odor Control At Bergen Point WWTP
The Suffolk County Department of Public Works recently conducted a field demonstration to assess the effectiveness and cost savings of using Peroxide Regenerated Iron Technology (PRI-TECH®) for odor control at the Bergen Point Wastewater Treatment Plant. Traditionally, the plant has relied on potassium permanganate for odor control, but they were interested in exploring a more cost-effective option.
PRI-TECH® utilizes iron salts and oxidants to convert sulfides and sulfur compounds into non-odorous compounds. In this program, ferrous chloride was used as the primary sulfide control agent, while hydrogen peroxide was used to regenerate iron and oxidize odorants. The technology was tested on sludge from various sources and was found to effectively treat odors at all stages of the solids handling operation.
Not only did the results demonstrate the effectiveness of PRI-TECH®, but they also revealed significant cost savings in odor control chemical spend. The company behind this technology offers a comprehensive program that includes engineering, site characterization, technology selection, implementation, execution, and report generation. Access to experienced application partners is also provided.
