Bioair Solutions Installs 100th Unit To Control Wastewater Treatment Plant Odors
Among the 1,000 exhibitors who participated in the WEFTEC show back in 2008 in Chicago was a small, start-up company introducing a new, innovative way of handling wastewater treatment plant odors. Known as BioAir Solutions, LLC, the company had developed a new generation of filtering and media technology for reliable, long-term removal of both organic and inorganic odors in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment applications.
Fast forward five years to this year’s WEFTEC trade show in Chicago where BioAir Solutions announced the completion of its 100th installation at a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“When we started out five years ago, we had a bold idea, a new technology, years of experience in the remediation of foul air, and the desire to become a valued resource for wastewater treatment plant owners, operators and designers dealing with odor problems,” said Louis le Roux, President of BioAir Solutions. “Today, we are a growing company with installations from coast to coast in the United States and in Canada, the Caribbean, Australia and the Middle East. We’ve also demonstrated how this technology can provide unmatched, cost-effective odor control performance in both the municipal and industrial markets.”
BioAir’s le Roux said the heart of the EcoFilter biotrickling filter technology is the company’s breakthrough proprietary EcoBase structured synthetic media with engineered flow channels. The unique, uniform characteristics of EcoBase deliver uniform performance across the media bed and through the life of the system. In addition to providing optimized mass transfer of odorous compounds and ability to treat high odor loadings, le Roux said BioAir’s EcoFilter system provides state-of-the-art performance with superior process control of the critical factors of moisture content, pH and nutrients. He said the system can be tailored to meet the exact needs of the customer because EcoFilter is easy to expand and upgrade, and can be scaled to meet the odor control requirements now and in the future.
EcoFilter eliminates odors using absolutely no hazardous chemicals and no consumables such as carbon, which has to be landfilled when spent. With a 20-year plus life span, it's the ideal environmentally friendly and sustainable solution to the odor control needs of plants and conveyance systems both large and small.
