Avoiding Unplanned Outages In Water Treatment
Maintenance professionals in Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities are busier than ever, constantly seeking ways to enhance the reliability of their systems and reduce maintenance demands. Pulsafeeder’s rotary pumps can play a vital role in achieving these goals by helping to minimize both unplanned and scheduled maintenance work.
At the City of Escondido Water Treatment Plant in California, which has the capacity to treat up to 75 million gallons of water per day for around 25,000 residential, commercial, and agricultural customers, the delivery of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for disinfection was previously managed using peristaltic pumps. These pumps were part of the On-Site Hypochlorite Generation (OSHG) system, which creates disinfecting NaOCl from salt, water, and electricity.
However, the peristaltic pumps presented significant challenges. They required frequent tube replacements, leading to additional maintenance work and downtime. The pumps also needed mechanisms to control pulsation and vibration within the system flow. Frequent tube failures resulted in high costs due to downtime, the need for spare parts, and the man-hours required for repairs.
