America's Engineers Applaud Advancement Of SPEED Act

Washington, DC  The American Council of Engineering Companies, the business voice of America’s engineering industry, released the following statement on the House Natural Resources Committee’s advancement of the Speed Act.

America's engineering industry designs the infrastructure that powers our economy and protects our communities. We strongly support responsible environmental review through the NEPA process, which ensures these critical projects serve the public good. However, today's permitting process has grown from months to years delaying vital infrastructure improvements and driving up costs for taxpayers.

The bipartisan SPEED Act offers practical reforms that preserve underlying environmental protections while restoring predictability to the NEPA process. By establishing clear judicial timelines, defining agency responsibilities, and reducing inefficiencies, the bill helps deliver infrastructure projects communities urgently need faster, more efficiently, and with greater clarity for project sponsors and stakeholders.

We commend Chairman Westerman and Representative Golden for their bipartisan leadership in advancing this critical legislation through the Natural Resources Committee. Congress now has an opportunity to modernize our permitting system while maintaining robust environmental safeguards. We urge the House to pass the SPEED Act and help America build the sustainable, resilient infrastructure our future demands.
