World Water Works Announces Exclusive Global Partnership For Groundbreaking Wastewater And Optimization Technology

AvN improves Total Nitrogen (TN) removal through management of alkalinity, carbon and energy

World Water Works, a leading designer and manufacturer of wastewater treatment solutions, announces it has been selected by the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) and the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) to bring their patent-pending AvN technology to the global marketplace.

The technology, which is named for the balance it achieves in Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria (AOB) vs. Nitrite Oxidizing Bacteria (NOB), is a wastewater process control and optimization technology that utilizes a proprietary control strategy, applying selective pressure to aid in the segregation of the desired bacterial populations. This allows wastewater treatment systems to achieve very low TN discharge parameters with upfront carbon diversion for other beneficial uses.

“We are extremely excited to partner with DC Water and HRSD and their team of elite scientists and engineers to deliver this game-changing technology to the global market,” said World Water Works’ CEO Mark Fosshage. “World Water Works was selected through a public bidding process due to our track record of success in bringing new technologies to market, extensive ammonia removal experience, complementary technologies and our strong reputation for customer satisfaction.”

AvN delivers a rapid return on investment to customers by managing the influent carbon, minimizing the alkalinity demands and reducing the energy requirement of the system, all while maintaining superior effluent quality. “The controller possesses a unique feature that converts only the amount of ammonia-nitrogen needed to be removed through nitrite shunt or deammonification, promoting better management of incoming organics and bicarbonate alkalinity for more effective NOB out-selection,” adds Fosshage.

Along with DC Water and HRSD, World Water Works is building a demonstrative site featuring the Ideal Future Plant which will incorporate the AvN technology and other components including a post-Anammox MBBR to aid in very low TN limits with minimum energy and chemical additions.

World Water Works is expected to have a few projects in progress before the end of 2015 that will incorporate the AvN technology. Clients can anticipate not only monetary savings from the system but also an easier to operate plant facility.
