The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is a commercial Airport located a few miles southeast of
Grand Rapids, MI. The Airport is home to some major carriers like Northwest, Continental,
United, American, and Delta airlines. The airport was originally called Kent County airport but
was later renamed Gerald R. Ford in 1999 in honor of the former US President. The expansion
project by Kent County Department of Aeronautics for the new rental car site development made
it necessary to update the storm water and vehicle maintenance shop drainage system to
accommodate the increased flow rates. URS Engineers located in Grand Rapids, MI was lead
design engineer for the expansion project and upgrades to the system.
