Ramboll: New Business Division Strengthens North American Presence

As a result of the acquisition of the US based environment consultancy Environ, Ramboll has recently established a new business division dedicated to water related projects. The business division employs more than 600 people, 100 of these are based in the US.

“In the US market, there is a need for solutions regarding water. This is for example, drinking water, wastewater purification, climate adaption, discharge and sewerage,” Hanne Christensen, Managing Director, Ramboll Water, says.

The new water division in Ramboll has an independent profile and a strong focus on developing competences towards helping private as well as public clients.

“Ramboll already has long experience working with municipalities and on state projects but by acquiring Environ, we have opened up to a wide range of industrial clients. This means that we are well-equipped to take on industrial tasks as well as public projects. We have a strong focus towards developing our employees’ competences so that they can guide the customers towards the best solution,” Hanne Christensen explains.

Focus on American water challenges
Ramboll has already finished a project for Chicago Lakeside. In the future, Ramboll plans to focus on several areas in the US, all based on our Nordic liveable city approach.

“The American market is characterized by a number of challenges. In California, there are problems with drinking water due to the drought while other states struggle with too much water and flooding,” Hanne Christensen says.

Ramboll has large experience in solving such challenges on other markets.

“We have had projects in the Middle East assessing ground and surface water – experiences we can use in California. In the Northern part of the US, where there are problems with too much water in some areas, we can use experiences from e.g. Denmark. Here, we have assisted Copenhagen municipality with the concretization of their climate plan including a number of blue-green solutions, where park areas are used for excess rain water,” Hanne Christensen says.

Ramboll/Ramboll Environ will be part of the Danish Pavilion at WEFTEC. Meet them in hall B, booth 2688.
