The GridBee submersible tank heater from Medora Corporation can prevent ice damage to potable water storage tanks that receive little or no turnover in the winter. The control box switches the heater on when outside air temperature falls below the setpoint, such as 25F or 10F, or whatever the user sets. The heater is designed for continuous operation. It can be easily installed through a roof hatch without entering the tank, and suspended from the roof with the included chain. The same model can be installed either horizontally or vertically.

“Our GridBee GS mixers can prevent ice damage in the vast majority of tanks, but some tanks have almost no new water entering them and sustain extensive damage regularly, or even complete tank failure,” said Joel Bleth, president, Medora Corporation. “This heater will help those municipalities reduce tank repair costs.”

The GridBee heater is made of 316 stainless steel wetted parts, with passivated welds for corrosion resistance. Designed for easy end-user installation, the assembly includes two 50-foot (15.2 m) submersible power cables (one for the heater and one for the liquid level float switch), both certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61. A liquid level float switch and outdoor NEMA 4X-rated thermoplastic control enclosure are also included, and thru-tank fitting for the cords to go through the roof.

Though the heater is a standalone product, it should usually be used with a GridBee mixer for complete floor-to-surface mixing, and to achieve uniform heat and disinfectant throughout the tank.
